Grounding
Tips
We
do NOT recommend fueling into portable containers since under
certain environmental conditions, portable
containers are susceptible to a build up of static electricity.
If fueling into a portable
container is unavoidable it is recommended that a ground wire
be attached between the portable
container and a metal surface on the fuel source. Please observe
the following recommended precautions when fueling to or from
a portable
container as they may greatly reduce the risk of hazardous arcing.
You will need the following supplies:
- Metal wire with alligator clips on each end. Suggested wire
size of AWG 16 or larger and a total length of 3 feet. (Should
be available from Radio Shack or similar vendor)
If
fueling through the Baja Filter into a portable
container. Place the container ON THE GROUND. In the following
order:
- Place Baja Filter spout into container
- Attach one end of ground wire alligator clip to Baja Filter
handle. Insure a solid connection.
- Attach other end of ground wire alligator clip to metal surface
on fuel source handle.
- Begin fueling.
If
fueling from a portable
container through the Baja Filter into a vehicle or vessel fuel
inlet:
- Insert Baja Filter into vehicle or vessel fuel inlet.
- Attach one end of ground wire alligator clip to Baja Filter
handle.
- Attach other end of ground wire alligator clip to any surface
on the portable
container other than the container outlet.
- Begin fueling.
After
fueling is complete, reverse the grounding process of the steps
above and safely secure container with cap.
