INSTRUCTIONS
for the use and care of your Baja Filter
Printable Version
Use:
1. Remove both end caps from the Baja Filter.
2. Insert filter spout into fuel tank inlet. CAUTION -
The Baja Filter is not recommended for use in filling to or from
portable containers. These containers can be highly susceptible to static
electricity which can cause sparks and ignition of fuel vapors under
certain environmental conditions.
3. Begin fueling. Adjust pump volume to filter flow rate. Exercise caution
to avoid excessive fuel pressure to prevent overflow.
4. If flow rate through the filter decreases noticeably during the fueling
process, this is an indication that debris and/or water has entered
the filter and fueling should be terminated until the foreign matter
is removed from the filter.
5. Remain aware of tank capacity and exercise care not to overfill.
6. After fueling is complete, allow filter canister to drain and remove
it from fuel inlet.
7. Reinstall the cap set to prevent contamination and/or damage of the
filter elements when not in use.
WARNING
Fueling into a portable container is NOT recommended. If fueling
into a portable container is unavoidable, it is strongly recommended
that the portable container be placed on the ground. A ground wire should
be attached between the Baja Filter canister handle and a metal surface
on the fuel source dispenser. Otherwise, under certain environmental
conditions, conduction of static electricity can cause sparks and ignition
of fuel vapors resulting in potential damage to persons and property.
Disassembling:
Remove the filter elements by placing your fingers and applying equal
pressure on opposite sides of the plastic rim of the screen and
slowly pull up until clear of the canister. Repeat for each screen and
spacer ring. Remember the order of removal: coarse screen is on top;
fine screen is the middle element and the water separator (green screen)
is the bottom and final filter element. Finally, remove the bottom spacer
ring.
Cleaning:
It is recommended that the Baja Filter be cleaned periodically in order
to maximize efficiency and to prolong the life of the filter elements.
The number of cleanings will vary depending on the frequency of use
of the filter and amount of debris/water that accumulates in the filter.
Remember, a decrease in flow rate is an indication that the filter elements
should be inspected and cleaned.
1. The canister, top screen, middle screen, spacer ring and cap set
may be washed with a mild soap and water solution, then rinsed thoroughly
with clear water.
2. The water separator element (green screen) is a specially treated
screen and should be rinsed on both top and bottom with clear water
only.
DO
NOT allow soap, detergents or chemical cleaning agents to
come in contact with the water separator screen as such agents will
decrease its performance and shorten the life of the water separator
element.
3. Dry
all parts with a soft clean cloth or allow to dry thoroughly before
reassembling and storing your filter.
Reassembling in reverse of disassembly process:
Insert the elements in the following order:
1. Spacer
ring - bottom, closest to spout
2. Water separator - (green screen)
3. Fine screen
4. Coarse screen
5. Cap set
